THE STORY OF THE UNICORN
When Jordan Nicholas was born August 27, 1990 my sister would have no idea that her full term, beautiful son would only live in this world for a few hours. We would later find out he had been born with a congenital heart defect and we would be unable to know the boy or man he might have been. We would have our love for Jordan, an angel in heaven, and the Unicorn that has come to represent him.
THE PORCELAIN UNICORN – A GIFT TO MY SISTER
Our Dad, Jordan’s grandfather had purchased a lovely porcelain unicorn in anticipation of the birth of his grandson. He would bring it to the hospital as a gift to my sister. How painful the irony when my sister brought home that porcelain unicorn but not her child.
THE UNICORN – PURE AND MAJESTIC
The unicorn often appears white in color; pure. It is majestic, its head erect with dignity; its front legs raised with strength; its gaze upon heaven. Its stance is one of triumph.
RESEARCH OF CHRISTIAN LORE
In researching Christian lore we found that to capture a unicorn a young maiden was placed in the forest. The unicorn would come to her and lay its head in her lap. Then it could be captured. This symbolizes Jesus who humbled Himself and was born of a Virgin.
THE CHILDREN WE LOVE IS A GIFT
For me, the Unicorn has come to represent that each day we begin with the children we love is a gift, for tomorrow is not guaranteed. Christ wants us to love our children; cherishing them, loving them, protecting them and guiding them in His Ways.
